The Romanian football champions CFR
Cluj drew 1-all on Thursday at home against FC Seville. The match was part of
the round of the last 32 of the Europa League. CFR scored first 59 minutes into
the match, when Ciprian Deac converted a penalty kick. The Moroccan
international player Youssef En-Nesyri equalised for the Spanish side on minute
82. The return match is scheduled for next Thursday.
Also in the Europa League, the
Romanian player Ianis Hagi had a decisive contribution to the victory of his
club, Glasgow Rangers, against the Portuguese side Braga. Hagi scored twice for
the Scottish side, who went on to win the home match 3-2.
In other football-related news, the
26th leg of the First Romanian League is taking place this weekend.
On Saturday, FC Voluntari are playing at home against FC Hermannstadt, while
FCSB are facing Chindia Targoviste on the National Arena in Bucharest. Four
matches are scheduled for Sunday: Viitorul Constanta face Academica
Clinceni at home; Gaz Metan play Dinamo Bucharest in Medias; Astra play Sepsi
Sfantu Gheorghe in Giurgiu; and in Craiova, the local side Universitatea play
CFR Cluj. On Monday, in the final leg match, FC Botosani face Politehnica Iasi.
CFR Cluj top the current ranking with 49 points, followed by Universitatea Craiova
with 46 and FCSB with 43.
We end this
sports preview with news from rugby. The Romanian national side will be taking
on Spain on Saturday at home in Botosani in their third match of the current
edition of the Rugby Europe Championship. Romania have lost their previous two
matches, to Georgia in Tbilisi 41-13 and to Portugal in Caldas da Rainha 22-11.
Romania are currently in 19th place in the world standings, while Spain
are in 16th. In the Rugby Europe Championship ranking, Romania are
in fifth place, which is the last but one, and Spain in fourth. In this edition
of the competition, Spain have defeated Russia away 31-12 and lost to Georgia
at home 23-10. After Spain, Romania will face Russia on the 7th of
March in Krasnodar and Belgium one week later, on the 14th, in
