Tennis players Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista,
Pablo Carreno, Marcel Granollers and Alejandro Davidovich make the Spanish
lineup for Spain’s Davis Cup match against Romania. The confrontation counts
towards the qualification for the Davis Cup’s final tournament. The
announcement was made by the Spanish non-playing captain, Sergi Bruguera. The match is scheduled to be played in Spain’s
Marbella, on March the 4th and the 5th. The winning team
advances to the 2022 David Cup’s final stage, to be held according to a 16-team
format. The teams are distributed in four groups, while the matches will be
hosted by four different cities. The first two teams in descending order will
then take part in the final tournament, to be hosted by a city which is still
to be announced.


The match pitting Romania
against Russia as part of the Rugby Europe Championship, venued by the Triumphal
Arch National Rugby Stadium next Saturday, will be played in front of a full
stadium. The public’s access to the event will be limited to 30 per cent of the
stadium’s seating capacity. Measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic will
also be implemented.


In news from football,
this coming weekend will see matches being played, counting towards League One’s
23rd round. On Friday, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe go against Universitatea
Craiova. On Saturday, FC Voluntari receive the visit of Gaz Metan Mediaş. Also on
Saturday, Academica Clinceni play a home game against Farul Constanţa, while on
Bucharest’s National Arena, Rapid Bucharest play UTA Arad. On Sunday, in Ploieşti,
in the south, Chindia Târgovişte are pitted against CS Mioveni, FC U Craiova play
a home match against FC Argeş, while in the domestic championship’s all-time derby
Dinamo Bucharest take on FCSB. In the 23rd round’s last fixture on Monday,
CFR Cluj face FC Botoşani. CFR Cluj are at the top of the table, with 58
points, followed by FCSB, with 48 and FC Voluntari, with 38 points.
