Romania’s Davis Cup team managed
to qualify to the final tournament after defeating on Sunday Peru, 4-0. On
Saturday, in the singles, Nicolae Frunză defeated 6-2, 6-4 Nicolas Alvarez,
while Marius Copil won 7-5, 6-2 against Conner Huertas del Pino. On Sunday, in
the men’s doubles, Horia Tecău / Marius Copil won against Sergio Galdos / Arklon
Huertas del Pino, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the last singles match, Gabi Adrian Boitan
defeated Jorge Brian Panta, 6-4, 6-4.
In news from handball, CSM Focşani
2007 defeated Haukar of Iceland 28-26 on Saturday at home in the first leg of
the third round of the EHF European Cup. Also in the first round, Minaur Baia
Mare lost to Partizan Belgrade away from home, 30-26. The return legs will be
played on December 4. On Sunday, Potaissa Turda lost to Besa Famgas of Kosovo
away from home, 30-28. The return leg is scheduled for December 5 in Turda.
Romanian wrestler Vlăduţ
Simionescu won silver in the 100+kg category at the Grand Slam hosted by Abu
Dhabi. In the round of 16, Simionescu defeated Marc Deschenes of Canada, while
in the semis he ousted Valeriy Endovitskiy of the Russian Federation. Simionescu
then lost the final to Tsetsentsengel Odkhuu of Mongolia.
This weekend saw a new round in
the Romanian First Football League. On Friday, Dinamo Bucharest drew 0-0
against FCU Craiova. On Saturday, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe drew 0-0 against Chindia
Târgovişte. FC Argeş won 1-0 against UTA Arad, while Rapid Bucharest drew 1-1
against CS Mioveni. On Sunday, FC Botoşani drew 1-1 against FC Voluntari. In
the round’s highlight match, FCSB defeated Universitatea Craiova 3-2 away from
home. On Monday, Gaz Metan Mediaș is playing Farul Constanța whereas CFR Cluj will
take on Academica Clinceni. CFR tops the league tables with 42 points, followed
