New matches were held at the weekend as part of the women’s
handball competitions. In the Champions League group phase, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea
lost at home to the Russian side TSKA Moscow 24-34 in a Group B match held on
Sunday. Vâlcea now dropped to the 7th and last but one place in the
group with 4 points, the same as Borussia Dortmund, who are in 6th
place. To advance to the next stage of the competition, Vâlcea need to finish among
the top six in their group. In Group A, CSM Bucharest were supposed to play the
Russian side Rostov-Don away on Saturday, but the match was cancelled because
of positive Covid test results among the Russian side. CSM are currently 4th
in their group with 11 points.
In the European League, the second-tier handball competition,
the Romanian side Dunărea Brăila lost at home to the Hungarian side Siofok 27-26
in Group D. Dunărea are second in their group with 3 points in three matches. In
Group C, Minaur Baia Mare lost to the Russian side Astrakhanochka 33-27 in an away match held on Sunday. Minaur
are now third in their group with 2 points in two matches.
Matches were held at the weekend counting for the 18th
leg of the domestic first league championship. On Friday, Chindia Târgovişte defeated
Academica Clinceni 2-1, while FCSB defeated FC Voluntari by the same score on
the National Arena in Bucharest. Saturday saw three matches: in Sfântu
Gheorghe, the local side Sepsi defeated Astra Giurgiu 4-1; FC Argeş defeated UTA
Arad away 2-1; and Universitatea Craiova drew at home 1-all against Viitorul
Constanţa. On Sunday, Gaz Metan Mediaş defeated Politehnica Iaşi 2-1; and FC
Botoşani thrashed Dinamo Bucharest at home 4-nil. In the final leg match, FC
Hermannstadt are playing CFR Cluj on Monday. FCSB currently top the ranking
with 41 points, followed by CFR Cluj with 37. (CM)
