Belgian Alison van Uytvanck on Sunday won the womens tennis tournament in Budapest. The Belgian challenger outperformed Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 1-6, 7-5, 6-2. Out of the Romanian delegation, Irina Begu obtained the best performance. Together with Galina Voskoboeva, the Romanian player made it to the semifinals of the doubles contest, where the two were stopped in their tracks by third-seeded pair, made up of Hungarian Fanny Sollar and Heather Watson of Britain.



The tennis matches pitching the Romanian womens side against France in the Fed Cup semifinal are to be held in the city of Rouen, the French Tennis Federation has announced. The competition is taking place on Kindarena on April 20th and 21st. In the competitions quarterfinals Romania outperformed, 3-2, the Czech side, who was also the trophy holder, while France secured a 3-1 win against Belgium. Belarus will be taking on Australia in the other games of the semifinals.



In the Champions League, Romanian womens side CSM Bucharest was defeated on their home turf on Saturday by the Hungarians from Gyor, 27-25, in a match counting towards the Leagues main Group 2. Jovanka Radicevic of Montenegro scored six times for the Romanian side. In the same group, Vipers Kristiansand clinched a 29-21 home win against Krim Ljubljana, while Ferencvaros Budapest on their own turf managed a 30-29 win against German challenger Thuringer. Gyor comes first in the groups ranking with 15 points followed by Vipers and CSM, each with 10. Ferencvaros ranks fourth with 9 points, Krim comes in fifth position with 3 points and Thuringer is at the bottom of the table with a single point. The first four sides are qualified for the competitions quarterfinals. CSM will be playing their next match against Krim on March 2nd in Ljubljana.



Last weekend saw the matches counting towards the 25th leg of Romanias first football league. On Friday in Sfantu Gheorghe local side Sepsi ended in a goalless draw the home match they played against Viitorul Constanta. Also on Saturday the fixture pitching local side Astra against FC Hermannstadt, in Giurgiu, southern Romania, ended with the hosts 1-0 win, while CFR Cluj also secured a 1-0 away win against Poli Iasi from northern Romania. On Sunday in Calarasi, Dunarea versus Dinamo Bucharest ended nil-all. Also in a draw, one-all this time, ended the fixture opposing FC Botosani and Gaz Metan Medias. In the legs most important match, FCSB defeated Universitatea Craiova 3-2. CFR ranks first in the standings with 51 points followed by FCSB with 48 and Craiova with 45.
