The Romanian fencer Ana-Maria Popescu won the silver medal at the International Epee Cup in Dubai on Saturday. She was defeated in the final by Estonian Kristina Lehis 15 to 14. Romania’s national womens handball team defeated the team of Kazakhstan, 38-17, on Sunday, in Castellon, in the second game played in Group C of the World Championship in Spain. This win secured the Romanian handballers the 2nd place in the group and the qualification to the main group stage of the competition. Most goals of the Romanian team were scored by Laura Moisă, who scored 6 times. Elena Dincă, Bianca Bazaliu and Crina Pintea have also scored, five goals each. The two goalkeepers also had a good performance. Yuliya Dumanska defended 7 shots and finished with a shot defense rate of 44%, and Daciana Hosu saved 8 throws, with a rate of 50%. On Tuesday, Romania will meet Norway.
We move on to mens handball. Romania has three teams in the eighth finals of the European EHF Cup competition. In the 3rd round of the competition, the 2nd leg, on Saturday, Minaur Baia Mare beat Partizan Belgrade 28-23 at home. In the first match, the Serbian team had won, in Belgrade, 30-26. In Iceland, also on Saturday, CSM Focșani lost 26-27 to Haukar, but they won the first leg at home 28-26. At the weekend, games were played counting for the 18th stage of Romania’s First League championship. On Friday, in Clinceni, Academica beat Dinamo Bucharest 1-0. On Saturday, CFR Cluj won in Ploiești against Chindia from Târgoviște 1-0, and in Ovidiu, Farul Constanța defeated the Bucharest team Rapid 2-0. On Sunday, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe won in Mioveni 2-0. With the same score, FC Voluntari defeated, away from home, FC U Craiova. Finally, in the last game of the day, on the National Arena in Bucharest, FCSB defeated, 2 to 1, UTA Arad. On Monday, the last two games of the stage will be played: FC Argeș with Gaz Metan Mediaș and FC Botoșani with Universitatea Craiova.
