In news from
gymnastics, Marian Drăgulescu ranked 4th in the vault final at the
European men’s Championships in Mersin, Turkey. Drăgulescu, who will turn 40 on
December 18, had an average score of 14.28 points. His two jumps were noted
with 13.66 and 14.90 respectively. The gold medal went on Igor Radivilov of
Ukraine, silver was scooped by Igor Sharomkov of Belarus while the bronze went
to Artem Dolgopyat of Israel. Romania didn’t win any medals in the men’s
European Championships, Drăgulescu’s 4th ranking being the best
result for the Romanian delegation.
The men’s
handball club Minaur Baia Mare has qualified to the EHF European Cup round of
16 after defeating Parnassos Strovolou of Cyprus 29-24 on Sunday in Nicosia, in
a match counting towards the return leg of the third round. Minaur had also won
28-25 in the first leg played on Saturday.
This weekend saw
matches counting towards the 13th round of the domestic football
championship. On Friday, FC Botoșani drew 1-all against Astra Giurgiu at home,
while Dinamo Bucharest trounced Poli Iași 4-1 at home. On Saturday, in Mediaș,
Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe defeated Gaz Metan 3-nil, whil in Giurgiu, Chindia
Târgoviște drew 1-all against Viitorul Constanța. On Sunday, Academica Clinceni
defeated FC Argeș 1-nil at home, FC Hermannstadt won 3-2 against FC
Voluntari, while finally, in the round’s highlight match, Romania’s champions
CFR CLuj defeated FCSB 2-nil. FCSB tops the league tables with 30 points, followed
by Universitatea Craiova with 28 points and CFR Cluj with 27 points. (V. Palcu)
