The city of
Ostrava in the Czech Republic is this week playing host to a WTA tournament
totaling $528 thousand in prize money. A total of three Romanian players were
enrolled in the qualifying rounds. Sorana Cîrstea and Ana Bogdan lost in the
first round. Irina Begu advanced to the second round, where she was knocked
out.
Last weekend saw
matches counting towards the seventh round in the Romanian First Football
League. On Friday, FC Argeş won 1-nil at home against Astra Giurgiu. On
Saturday, Chindia Târgovişte won 1-nil against Gaz Metan Mediaş. Politehnica
Iaşi lost 1-4 to Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe at home. CFR Cluj won narrowly 2-1
against de FC Botoşani. On Sunday, FC Hermannstadt drew 1-all against UTA Arad.
In the round’s highlight match, Universitatea Craiova won 1-nil against Dinamo

followed by FCSB and CFR Cluj, each with 12 points.
