Romania ranked 3rd
in the medals table at the European Rowing Championships hosted by Poznan,
Poland. Romania won a total of six medals, four gold, one silver and one
bronze. The Romanian women’s eight+1 crew, the women’s double-scull, the men’s
double scull and the women’s pair crews won the gold medals. The men’s eight+1
crew grabbed the silver, while the bronze medal went to the women’s lightweight
double-scull crew. A total of 45 athletes and 12 crews represented Romania in
the competition. In last year’s edition hosted by Lucerne, Switzerland, Romania
won one gold, four silver and one bronze.

In the European
Nations’ League, Romania on Sunday lost nil-4 to Norway in Olso. Erling Haaland
scored a triple for the hosts on minutes 13, 64 and 74, and Alexander Sørloth
also scored on minute 39. Romania had a poor display of football overall.
Goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu’s good performance was the only thing that
prevent the score from further escalating. Also on Sunday, in the other group
fixture, Austria defeated Northern Ireland 1-nil. Romania will next play
Austria on October 14 in Ploieşti.

women’s handball club CSM Bucharest, without its top player Cristina Neagu in
the lineup, lost to Vipers Kristiansand of Norway 30-25 on Saturday in
Champions League Group A. Adrian Vasile’s team sustained its first defeat in
the group, after winning the first two matches. Vipers is thus the new leader
of Group A with 6 points in 3 games. CSM is ranked 4th, with 4
points in 3 games. CSM will next play Ferencvaros Budapest at home on October
18. In Group B, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea was due to play Podravka Koprivnica of Croatia
at home on Sunday, but the match was postponed due to COVID infections. SCM
Râmnicu Vâlcea is due to play Győr of Hungary away from home next Saturday. Also
in women’s handball, Dunărea Brăila advanced to the EHF European League third
preliminary round after defeating Tertnes Bergen of Norway in a double-leg
