The domestic
football championship might resume in less than a month. Minister for Youth and
Sports Ionut Stroe last week suggested the competition should resume over June
15-20. Under these circumstances, the Romanian Football Federation might submit
to UEFA the names of the teams that will take part in European inter-club
competitions. To resume training, League 1 teams had to train in closed
circuit. The same conditions will apply once the championship restarts.
As regards League
2, the competition will continue only for the teams ranking 1 through 6 in the
tables before the COVID-19 led to the interruption of the competition. The winner
of the competition will be settled in a five-round playoff system. Teams will
get half the points they had on March 16, 2020. The top three teams will play
three of the five games on home turf. The first two teams at the end of the
season will be promoted to the League 1, while the team in third place will
play a playoff match with the team ranking 6th in the League 1. The
draw for the playoffs will be hosted by the Federation’s Competition department
at a date that will be later made public. The promotion playoff regulations
will be decided at a subsequent date too, while taking into account the restart
of football competitions in Romania, the Football Federation also notes. Teams
ranking 7 through 18 in League 2 won’t be playing any matches in the current
season, although no team will be relegated.
The Romanian
women’s chess team defeated Greece 12-8 in an online friendly match on
Saturday. The match was played in two rounds. In the first round the score was
5-all, but Romania won the second round 7-3. According to Agerpres news agency,
Romania’s top performers were Mihaela Sandu, Alessia Ciolacu and Oana Schiopu,
each with two wins in two matches.
