The Romanian mens handball club Minaur Baia Mare on Saturday advanced to the EHF European Cup finals. In the return leg of the semi-final, the team from Romania lost to Alingsaas of Sweden 31-28, but advanced to the final on aggregate after winning 34-28 in the first leg at home. In the final, the Romanian club will face Nærbø of Norway.
In the quarterfinals of the womens Champions League, CSM Bucharest lost on Sunday at home to Team Esbjerg of Denmark, 25-26. The Romanian champions were behind throughout the entire match. CSM evened the odds shortly before full time, but the Danish team scored on the last second of the game to win the first leg. The top scorer for CSM was Cristina Neagu with 9 goals, while Kristine Breistøl scored 7 goals for Team Esbjerg. The return leg is scheduled for Sunday in Denmark.
Romania won no medals at the European Judo Championships in Sofia. Adrian Șulcă grabbed the best result, ranking 5th in the 73-kg category. Romanias last medal in a judo continental competition was the silver won by Andreea Chițu at the 2020 European Championships in the 52-kg category.
In the second round of the Rugby National League, Bucharest rivals Steaua and Dinamo ended the highlight match 23-23 on the new stadium in Ghencea. Steaua scored three tries, while Dinamo two.
Last weekend saw a new round in the Romanian domestic championship. On Friday, in Group 2, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe won 3-1 at home against Gaz Metan Mediaș, while in Ploiești, Chindia Târgoviște drew 0-0 against Rapid Bucharest. On Saturday, Dinamo Bucharest defeated Academica Clinceni 5-1, while on Sunday, FC U Craiova won 1-0 at home against UTA Arad. On Monday, CS Mioveni is playing FC Botoșani. Gaz Metan and Academica have been relegated to the second division.
In Group 1, on Saturday, Universitatea Craiova won against FC Voluntari at home 1-0. CFR Cluj also won at home against Farul Constanța. On Monday, FCSB will take on FC Argeș. CFR tops the league tables, 5 points ahead of runner-up FCSB. (VP)
