Moving on to
handball, Angola won the Carpati Trophy in women’s handball. The competition,
which is now in its 51st year, took place in the Romanian city of
Braila. In the final match, Angola drew 21-all with Romania’s first team, but
ranked first in the general standing thanks to a better goal average. Japan
ranked third and Romania’s second team fourth.
We continue with
news from basketball. In the third match of the Romanian men’s National League
final, CSU Sibiu defeated the defending champions CSM CSU Oradea 71-64 away.
Sibiu won their first victory in the final after losing both of their home
matches. The final’s fourth match will be held on Tuesday in Oradea. The final
uses the best-of-five format.
We end with
football. The 2018-2019 first league championship has come to an end. On Friday
in the final Group 2 leg, FC Botosani defeated Poli Iasi 2-nil away, while
Dinamo Bucharest and FC Voluntari drew nil-all in Bucharest. On Sunday, FC
Hermannstadt defeated Dunarea Calarasi 2-1 at home, and Gaz Metan Medias
defeated Concordia Chiajna 3-1 in Medias. Concordia Chiajna and Dunarea
Calarasi will relegate, while FC Hermannstadt will go into play-offs with
Universitatea Cluj, the side ranking third in the second league. Chindia
Targoviste and Academica Clinceni have promoted to the first league. CFR Cluj
are the Romanian champions.
