The national
women’s handball championship has come to an end. In the last round, CSM
Bucharest won away from home 32-25 against Minaur Baia Mare. SCM Ramnicu Valcea
has for the first time won the title, ending CSM Bucharest’s winning streak.
The Romanian
men’s table tennis team has qualified to the 2019 European Championship. This
weekend in Bucharest Romania won Group 1 in the second phase of the
preliminaries. On Saturday, Romania eased past Lithuania 3-nil, while on Sunday
it defeated Serbia, 3-1. The European Championship will be played in Nantes,
France, over September 3-8.
This weekend saw
matches counting towards the domestic football championship. In Group 2, on
Friday, FC Botosani defeated Gaz Metan Medias 1-nil. On Saturday, Poli Iasi drew
1-all against FC Hermannstadt at home, while Dinamo Bucharest outplayed
Concordia Chiajna 2-nil away from home. On Sunday, FC Voluntari drew nil-all
against Dunarea Calarasi at home. With three rounds still left, FC Voluntari is
in fifth place with 27 points. FC Hermannstadt is in 6th place, with
24 points, followed by Dunarea Calarasi with 22 points and Chiajna with 16
points. The last two teams will be relegated to the second-tier league, while
the last but two teams will play playoff matches to keep their league one
positions.
In Group 1, the
last round was played this weekend. On Saturday, FC Viitorul Constanta won 2-1
against Universitatea Craiova and has thus secured the third position in the
rankings, allowing the team to play in Europa League next season. On Sunday,
FCSB won 1-nil against CFR Cluj, in a match that did not count for the title,
as CFR had already secured the championship ahead of the last round. The team
from Cluj thus tops the tables with 50 points, followed by FCSB with 48 points.
The round’s last
match will be played on Monday, Astra Giurgiu vs. Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe.
