Romanian fencer
Ana-Maria Popescu this past Sunday won the epee Grand Prix in Budapest as in
the final, Popescu secured a 15-7 win against South Korea’s Young Ming Yang.
In the 4th
round of the European Rugby Championship, Romania grabbed a 22-20 win against
Russia. In the other two matches in the group, Georgia trounced Germany, 52-3,
while Spain thrashed Belgium, 47-9. Romania is 4th-placed of six
teams in the group. In the last round, Romania takes on Belgium away from home.
Now it’s news
from women’s handball, as in the 2nd group, CSM Bucharest ended the
match against German opponents Thuringer 23-all. The group’s final rankings saw
CSM coming in 4th. In the quarterfinals, CSM will be facing the winner
of group 1, French team Metz.
Romania’s medal
tally at the end of the European Under-23 Wrestling Championships held in Novi
Sad, Serbia, counts seven medals. In the Greek-Roman style, the four silver
medals went to Florin Tita, in the 55-kilogram category, Razvan Arnaut, in the
60-kilogram category, Lenard Berei in the 130-kilogram category and Kriszta
Tunde Incze, in the competition’s women’s version, in the 65-kilogram category.
Three other
medals were bronze and went to Romanian women wrestlers, Suzanna Georgiana
Seicariu in the 53-kilogram category, Andreea Beatrice Ana, in the 55-kilogram
category and Diana Elena Vlasceanu, in the 76-kilogram category.
News from
football. Some of the Romanian League One’s matches have already been played. On
Saturday, CFR Cluj secured a 3-1 win against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe, while on
Sunday, Universitatea Craiova clinched a 1-nil win against Astra Giurgiu. Dinamo
Bucharest defeat Dunarea Calarasi 2-nil, FC Hermannstadt conceded a nil-2
defeat to Gaz Metan Medias, while Politehnica Iasi sustained a defeat by FC
Voluntari, also nil-2. CFR are at the top of the table with 30 points, CSU
Craiova are 2nd-placed, with 26 points, while FCSB comes third with
25 points.
