Romania has worn 30 medals at the World Juniors and
Youth Weightlifting Championships in Durres, Albania. 7 medals were gold, 13
silver and 10 bronze, Gold went to Under-23 Valentin Iancu, who
competed in the 55 kilogram-category. Iancu walked away with gold in the clean-and-jerk and snatch styles, and in total. In
the juniors’ competition, Mihaela Cambei, in the 49-kilogram category, won gold,
also in the clean-and-jerk and snatch styles, and overall. In the 45-kilogram
category, junior weightlifter Cosmin Isofache won gold, in total.
Rapid Bucharest women’s handball team has a no-defeat record in the Champions League. In the sixth round as part of the competition’s group stage, holders Rapid this past
Sunday grabbed a 27-25 home win against Norway’s Storhamar. With 6 goals, Rapid’s
Spanish handballer Jennifer Gutierrez Bermejo was the top scorer for her team. Rapid
are 2nd-placed in Group B, with 10 points, on a par with top-of-the-table team, Hungary’s Gyor, but with a poorer goal average. On Saturday,
December 3rd, after the European women’s handball championships,
Rapid Bucharest will play an away game against Gyor.
On Saturday,
in a Group A fixture, CSM Bucharest sustained their first defeat in the League’s
ongoing edition. In Norway, Vipers Kristiansand defeated Rapid, 35-29. Cristina
Neagu scored 10 goals for Rapid, but that was not enough for her team. With a similar number of points but with a different goal average, Germany’s Bietigheim, Kristiansand and CSM
have the lead in the group. On Sunday, December 4, CSM Bucharest will play a home game
against Ferencvaros Budapest.
Matches counting towards the Romanian Superleague in football’s
15th round, the last round of the home series, were played this past
weekend. On Friday in Bucharest, Rapid and Farul Constanța drew, 1-all. On
Saturday, Chindia Târgoviște grabbed a 3-nil away fixture against FC Voluntari
cu 3-0, while the home game FC U Craiova played against Hermannstadt, ended in
a 1-all draw. On Sunday, the match pitting CS Mioveni against FC Botoșani ended
in a blank draw, UTA Arad sustained a 1-2 home defeat by Universitatea Craiova,
and Universitatea Cluj were defeated by CFR Cluj, also 1 – 2 and also on home
turf. Farul are at the top of the table, with 34 points, followed by Rapid with
