Romania’s rugby
team on Sunday defeated 29-14 Uruguay in a friendly match played in Verona,
Italy. Uruguay has already secured qualification to the 2023 World Cup in
France. The first half was balanced, Uruguay securing a 1-point lead before
half time. In the second half, Romania picked up its game and denied Uruguay
any further points, but scored 16 themselves. Florian Roșu and Hinckley Vaovasa
scored the points for Romania, each with a try, both converted by Ionel Melinte.
Melinte also converted another 5 penalty kicks. Rodrigo Silva and Federico
Favaro scored the points for Uruguay.
This Sunday the
European Swimming Championship in Kazan, Russia, came to a close. Robert Glință
competed in the 100-m freestyle final, ranking sixth with 46.74 seconds. The
gold went to Kliment Klesnikov of Russia. Romania grabbed a total of three
medals: David Popovici won gold in the 200-m freestyle event, Robert Glință won
silver in the 100-m backstroke event and also bronze in the 50-m backstroke
event. Vlad Stancu and Alexandra Dobrin also represented Romania in the
competition.
This weekend saw
matches counting towards a new round in the Romanian Football Championship. On
Friday, Chindia Târgoviște lost 0-1 to Gaz Metan Mediaș, whereas FC Argeș also
lost at home to FC Botoșani 0-1. On Saturday, CS Mioveni drew 0-0 against UTA
Arad, FCU Craiova drew 1-1 at home against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe. On Sunday,
Farul Constanța defeated CS Universitatea Craiova 1-0, Dinamo Bucharest lost to
CFR Cluj 0-3, while FC Voluntari drew against FCSB 0-0. On Monday, Academica
Clinceni is playing Rapid Bucharest. CFR Cluj tops the league tables with 39 points,
followed by FCSB with 31 points and CS Universitatea Craiova with 28 points.
