At the European Judo Championships held in Prague, Romanian wrestler
Luca Kunszabo grabbed bronze in the 100+kg category. In the bronze final he
defeated another Romanian, Mircea Croitoru. In the round of 16, Kunszabo ousted
Yevgeny Balyevsky of Ukraine. In the quarterfinals he knocked out another
Ukrainian, Andrey Koleshnik, and was actually himself eliminated by another
wrestler from Ukraine, Aleksander Gordyenko, in the semis. Mircea Croitoru won
in the round of 16 against Peter Arvai of Hungary, but lost in the
quarterfinals to Martti Puumalainen of Finland. In the requalifying phase he
was ousted by Kamil Grabowski of Poland, and finished the competition in 5th
place.
In the domestic ice hockey championship, SC Miercurea Ciuc took on
CSM Galaţi this weekend. The team from Miercurea Ciuc won the match on home
turf 6-3, while on Sunday they defeated CSM again away from home 4-1. Ranking
first is Corona Brașov, with 52 points in 20 games. CSM Galaţi is ranked 2nd
with 48 points and one less game. CS Gheorgheni is in third place with 47
points in 24 games, while Miercurea Ciuc has 33 points in 16 games.
Romanian footballer Nicolae Stanciu scored twice for his club,
Slavia Prague in the match won 3-2 against FC Slovacko on Sunday, in a match
counting towards the 21st round of the Czech championship. Stanciu
scored on minute 37 from penalty kick and from minute 72 from free kick.
Stanciu has scored a total of 6 goals for Slavia this season in 20 games.
Slavia tops the league tables with 55 points, followed by Sparta Prague with 44
points.
Let us also note the results of the latest round in the Romanian
Football Championship. On Friday, Viitorul Constanța trounced Dinamo Bucharest
away from home, 5-nil. On Saturday, UTA Arad won narrowly against Gaz Metan
Mediaș 2-1, then Academica Clinceni drew 1-all against Astra Giurgiu. Also on
Saturday, Chindia Târgoviște defeated Universitatea Craiova 1-nil. On Sunday,
in Mediaș, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe won 2-1 against FC Hermannstadt cu 2-1, while
FCSB won 2-nil against FC Botoșani. On Monday, Poli Iași is playing FC
Voluntari while CFR Cluj will go up against FC Argeș. (V.P.)
