Romania’s online
chess championship was held last week. Lucian Miron won the men’s tournament
while Luminita Cosma prevailed in the women’s competition. The defending
champion Lucian Miron defeated Robin Dragomirescu. 1.5 – 0.5. In the women’s
final, three-time national champion and a member of our national team, Luminita
Cosma defeated Andreea-Marioara Cosman 1.5-0.5. The competition lined up 16
players in 4 groups, taking them from quarterfinals to the final match. During
this period of isolation, the Romanian Chess Federation organized several
international matches, both for senior and youth teams. Depending on the
evolution of the pandemic, chess players hope to resume table competitions in
July.
Romanian

see matches counting towards the third round of the group phase in the domestic
championship. All matches will be played in front of empty stands. In Group 1,
on Friday, Universitatea Craiova is pitted against FC Botosani. CFR Cluj will
play FCSB on Sunday. On Monday, Astra Giurgiu is playing Gaz Metan Medias. CFR
tops the league tables with 30 points, followed by FCSB and Universitatea, each
with 26. In Group 2, on Saturday, FC Voluntari will play Academica Clinceni,
Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe will go up against FC Heramannstadt, while Dinamo
Bucharest will take on Chindia Targoviste. On Monday, Viitorul Constanta is
playing the visiting side Politehnica Iasi. Viitorul tops the group tables with
24 points, followed by Sepsi with 19 points.
