Romanian-born
Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu won the Indian Wells tournament in the
United States, a competition with 9 million dollars in prize money. Andreescu
won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against Germany’s Angelique Kerber. After this win Andreescu
will be 24th ranked in WTA standings.
Romania’s rugby
team on Sunday defeated Belgium away from home 43-17. This was the last match
played by the Oaks in the 2018-2019 Rugby Europe International Championship.
Four tries were scored for Romania, by Johan Van Heerden, Vlad Nistor, Vladut
Zaharia and Ovidiu Cojocaru, respectively. Daniel Plai converted 4 penalty
kicks, two tries and a penalty try. Also on Sunday, in Koln, Spain defeated
Germany 33-10. Romania ranks 3rd in the league standings after
Georgia and Spain.
