The Romanian womens handball team on Saturday won the Carpathian Trophy competition hosted by Bucharest. In the final match Romania defeated 33-24 the countrys B team. Previously on Friday, Romania had defeated Serbia 29-26, while Romania B had ousted the defending Olympic champions, Russia, 25-24. Russia was ranked 3rd in the competition after defeating Serbia 33-32 in the bronze final. For all the teams enrolled in the competition, the Carpathian Trophy provided a good test ahead of the European Championship to be hosted by France over November 29-December 16. Romania was drawn in Group D and will play the Czech Republic on December 1, Germany on December 3 and Norway on December 5.
In mens handball, Dobrogea Sud Constanta has advanced to the EHF Cup after defeating Swedens Malmo at home 34-28 in the second leg of the third preliminary round. Dobrogea Sud had also won the first leg in Sweden, 23-22.
From the world of hockey, all the Romanian teams performing in Erste League grabbed victories in Sundays matches. SC Miercurea Ciuc defeated Vienna Capitals II 7-1 at home. Corona Brasov won 5-2 against Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak while ACSH Gheorgheni defeated the team in last position, Schiller-Vasas 3-2 at home. In the group tables, SC Miercurea Ciuc ranks first with 64 points, followed by Hungarys Ferencvaros Budapest with 58 points.
This weekend saw a new round in the Romanian Football League. On Friday, Dinamo Bucharest drew 1-all at home against Gaz Metan Medias. On Saturday, Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe won 1-nil against Astra Giurgiu at home, while CFR Cluj defeated Concordia Chiajna 1-nil away from home. On Sunday, FC Hermannstadt grabbed a 1-nil win over Dunarea Calarasi, Viitorul Constanta won 1-nil against FC Voluntari, while FCSB won 2-1 against Poli Iasi. On Monday, FC Botosani will play Universitatea Craiova. CFR Cluj tops the league tables with 33 points, followed by FCSB with 31 points.
