The Romanian womens tennis team defeated Serbia 4-0 in the Billie Jean King Cup playoffs, in a match hosted by Serbia. On Friday, Gabriela Ruse defeated Mia Ristic 7-6, 6-3, while Jaqueline Cristian won 7-5, 6-4. On Saturday, Jaqueline Cristian won 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 against Lola Radivojevic, while in the doubles match, the pair made up of Monica Niculescu and Anca Todoni won 6-1, 7-6 against Katarina Kozarov and Aleksandra Krunic.
In swimming, several-time European and World champion David Popovici won gold in the freestyle 50m race in the short-course (25m) national championships. Popovici won another three gold medals, in the freestyle 100m, 200m and 200m relay races.
In womens basketball, in the 2025 European Championship preliminaries, Romania lost to Slovakia 93-77 in a Group F fixture. In the other group fixture, Turkey won 72-65 against Iceland.
In womens handball, in Champions League Group A, CSM Bucharest drew 29-29 against Schaeffler of Hungary at home. In Group B, Rapid Bucharest won 30-29 against Vipers Kristiansand. In the European League, Dunărea Brăila defeated Borussia Dortmund 25-24 away from home.
In the 16th round of the Romanian Football Super League, on Friday Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe drew 0-0 against Rapid Bucharest. On Saturday, Universitatea Cluj drew 0-0 against Petrolul Ploiești, Politehnica Iași drew 3-3 against CFR Cluj while Farul Constanța drew 1-1 against FC hermannstadt. On Sunday, FC Botoșani drew 3-3 against FC Voluntari while CSU Craiova won 1-0 against Dinamo Bucharest. In the last match of the day, FCSB won 2-1 agaisnt FCU Craiova. On Monday, UTA Arad is playing Oțelul Galați. FCSB tops the League tables with 34 points, followed by CFR Cluj with 31 points and Rapid Bucharest with 30 points. (VP)
