Romanian national football team on
Friday plays an away fixture against Kosovo. Hosted by Pristina’s ”Fadil Vokrri” stadium,
the match counts towards Group I as part of EURO 2024 preliminaries. We recall
that so far Romania has defeated Andorra and Belarus, 2-nil and 2-1, respectively,
and is second-placed in the group, with 6 points, on a par with Switzerland. Head-coach
Edward Iordanescu has called 26 footballers for the pool of regulars. 12 of
them play abroad, while 14 are signed up by domestic clubs. Four of the domestic
championship footballers are signed up by Farul Constanta, while three others
play for the Italian team Pisa, in Serie B.

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry
has issued a series of pieces of advice and recommendations
to Romanian citizens travelling to Pristina for the match pitting Romania against
Kosovo. Therefore, it is recommended that those driving their cars should enter Kosovo
from North Macedonia. The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry does not recommend entering
Kosovo from Serbia, through the Brnjak and Jarinje checkpoints, because they could
be blocked or closed, should the security situation get worse. The Ministry reminds
everybody the security situation is still unpredictable, especially in northern Kosovo.

Former CFR Cluj head-coach Dan Petrescu has been appointed
head coach of South-Korean football team Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. 55-year-old Petrescu
has worked in Asia before, training teams from Qatar, China and United Arab
Emirates. Over 2018 and 2022, with CFR Cluj, Dan Petrescu won five Romanian champion
titles.

With 70% of the shares, businessman Dan Sucu became a majority
shareholder of FC Rapid Bucharest football club. With 30% of the shares, Victor
Angelescu remains the second shareholder of the club. Sucu said important sums
would be invested in the team in the coming years. Sucu’ s stated aim was to
support Rapid in their bid to earn a place among the championship’s first three teams. We recall
that in the recently-concluded season, Rapid was 5th-placed according
to Romanian Super league’s Group 2 stage.
