The Romanian
men’s handball club Dinamo Bucharest lost 31-22 to Kristianstad of Sweden on
Tuesday evening in a match played away from home, counting towards the EHF
European League Group B. This was Dinamo’s second consecutive defeat, after
losing 25-27 to Sporting Lisbon of Portugal at home. Without being able to
field some of its top players and in the absence of headcoach Constantin Ştefan,
who all tested positive for COVID-19, Dinamo had a poor display of handball. In
the second half the goal difference rose to 12 goals. The top scorers for
Dinamo were Octavian Bizău and Valentin Ghionea, with six goals each. The other
group fixtures, Nîmes versus Fuchse Berlin and Sporting Lisbon versus Tatran
Presov, were cancelled due to COVID-related issues. Dinamo will next play
Tatran Presov away from home on November 17.
In news from
women’s handball, let us note that the Romanian champions, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea,
have signed Daria Bucur, a 21-year-old national team player, over a period of
two years. In the last three years, the young handballer played for Corona
Braşov. She was the target of several doping scandals at her previous club at
the end of last year. At the time, several handballers playing for the team in
Braşov underwent low-frequency laser therapy, a procedure forbidden under the
World Anti-Doping Agency regulations. Daria Bucur was originally handed a 1
year and four months suspension, which was subsequently partially lifted, and
the Romanian player was granted the right to play in competitions starting
September 11. Earlier this month SCM Râmnicu
Vâlcea also transferred Daciana Hosu, a goalkeeper for Corona, herself also
involved in the doping scandal. Hosu had an initial suspension of 1 year and
three months, but this too was partially lifted and she was allowed to play
again starting July 10. SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea this Saturday was due to play
Borussia Dortmund at home in Champions League, but the game was postponed after
three SCM players tested positive for COVID-19. SCM has one more game left to play
in Champions League, against Podravka Koprivnica.
