Romanian wrestler Alin Alexuc Ciurariu on Tuesday won gold in the Greek-Roman style as part of the European Wrestling Championships underway in Rome. In the 130-kilogram category, Alin defeated Georgia’s Levan Arabuli, 6 to 1. Currently signed up by Dinamo Bucharest sports club, Alin Alexuc Ciurariu, who on February 3 turned 30, succeeded his career best. He also won bronze in 2018, at the European Championships held in Kaspiysk, Russia, and in 2019 in Bucharest.
In Rome, Alin Alexuc Ciurariu first defeated Russia’s Zurabi Ghedehauri in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Alin Alexuc won the match against Azeri challenger Sabah Saleh Shariati, while in the semifinals he outclassed Nikola Kuchimi of Ukraine.
Two other Romanian Greek-Roman wrestlers on Tuesday wasted the chance to grab a medal coming in 5th. In the 55-kilogram category, Florin Tita sustained a defeat by Georgia’s Nugzari Turtumia, in the fight for the bronze medal. In the competition’s repechage stage, Tita defeated Turkish opponent Dogus Ayazci. We recall Tita also grabbed a win against Ukraine’s Koriun Sahradian in the qualifiers, yet he was defeated by Russian challenger Vitali Kabaloev in the quarterfinals.
The European champion in 2018, Mihai Mihut lost the fight for the bronze medal in the match against Hungary’s Erik Torba, in the 63-kilogram category.
