The FCSB football team will play, on Thursday, a new match in Europa League, the second inter-club continental value echelon. The Romanian champion will meet, in Bucharest, the Danish team Midtjylland, in the fourth stage of the competition. So far, FCSB has recorded, in Europa League, two victories and one defeat. At home, they beat the Latvian team RFS 4-1, then defeated the Greek squad PAOK Thessaloniki 1-0 away from home. What followed was a harsh defeat in Scotland, in the match with Glasgow Rangers (0-4).
The Danish team ended the game played in the first stage of the League with a draw: 1-1, on home turf, with the German team Hoffenheim. It achieved the first victory with Maccabi Tel Aviv, 2-0, in a game played in Belgrade. Another victory followed, after a match at home against the Belgian team Union Saint Gilloise (1-0). Midtjylland is currently 7th in the Europa League ranking with 7 points, while FCSB is placed 13th with 6 points.
In the Romanian Super league, halfway through the regular season, FCSB is in 6th place, which is the last one to secure a trip to the play-offs. The champion had a shy debut, then came back with a series of victories. It ended the last two championship matches in a draw: 0-0 with Rapid, then 1-1 with Universitatea Craiova. Midtjylland, on the other hand, ranks first in the Danish championship, after 14 rounds, followed, at just one-point difference, by Aarhus and FC Copenhagen. On Sunday, however, the team coached by Thomas Thomasberg was defeated 5-1, at home, by Brøndby. It was the third consecutive defeat in the duels with Brøndby in the last month, after 0-2, in the championship, on October 6, and 0-1 in the Danish Cup, on the 31st. Thus, Midtjylland lost four of the last six games played.
Under these circumstances, FCSB seems to have a slight advantage. However, the Romanian champion has issues with the team. For example, the technical management has not confirmed that it can still count on the team captain, the international Darius Olaru. After complaining of muscle problems in the game played last Wednesday in the Romanian Cup with Dinamo, he did not play on Sunday, away from home, against Universitatea Craiova.
