On Monday in Arad, western Romania Astra
Giurgiu thrashed local side UTA 6-0, while in Mogosoaia, FCSB ended in a
one-all draw their game against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. On Tuesday in Cluj, the
game pitching local side CFR against Universitatea Craiova ended in a goaless
draw. FCSB tops the table with 34 points followed by Universitatea Craiova with
32 and CFR Cluj with 31.
Unfortunately 2020 wasn’t a good year
for the Romanian footballers. The national eleven managed only lackluster games
in the Nations’ League, where they ranked only third in their group and blew
their chances to play in the European Championship next year. The Romanians managed only one win against
Austria, 3-2. They also won the match against Norway but only because the
Covid-19 pandemic had prevented the Norwegians from coming to Bucharest. Our
side managed two draws, one-all, against Northern Ireland, came a cropper 4-0
in Norway and lost to Austria at home 0-1.
In club competitions, the only
Romanian side to have made a good figure internationally was CFR Cluj, which
made it to the Europa League group stage, ranking third in group A.
