The Romanian
handball player Christina Neagu has been awarded the title of world’s
best handballer in 2018, the International Handball Federation has announced.
The Romanian is the first athlete to have received the trophy awarded by the
aforementioned body, four times. We recall Neagu was previously awarded the
trophy in 2010, 2015 and 2016.

In 2018, Cristina
Neagu’s challengers for the world’s best handball player title were Russia’s Ana
Viahireva, Amandine Leynaud and Estelle Nze Minko of France as well as
Norwegian handballer Stine Oftedal.

In 2018, Cristina
Neagu walked away with the Champions League bronze medal she won with her team,
CSM Bucharest. Neagu succeeded to win the League’s top scorer title for the
second time in her career, with 110 goals. Cristina was nominated for
the competition’s dream team for the fourth time running, for the inter-left
position. Also in 2018, Neagu walked away with Romania’s champion title and
Romania’s Cup in handball, with CSMB.

At EURO 2018,
Cristina Neagu was the national team’s best handballer. At the European
competition hosted by France, she led her team all the way up to the semis, for
the third time in the team’s history and for the first time after 2010.
However, Neagu was denied the opportunity to play in the semis and the 3rd-place
fixture because of a very serious injury.

Also at EURO 2018, Cristina Neagu was
the best scorer in the history of the European Championship, with 237 goals.
Neagu thus outclassed such legend handball players as the Hungarian Agnes
Farkas and Germany’ s Grit Jurack.

In January, Cristina
Neagu was designated Europe’s best handball player in 2018, according to a
survey carried on the European Federation’s Facebook page, with more than 10,000
fans participating. The Romanian thus won the title for the second year
running.
