Meanwhile, the matches counting for the World Rugby Under 20 Trophy
are under way on the Arcul de Triumf National Stadium in Bucharest. Romania
lost the first two matches in Group A to Namibia, 55-26, and to the Independent
State of Samoa, 31-17. Namibia lead the group followed by Samoa, Romania and
Hong Kong. Fiji lead Group B, followed by Uruguay, Portugal and Canada. Romania
next play against Hong Kong.
In other rugby news, CSM Bucharest won the King’s Cup for the first
time after defeating CSA Steaua Bucharest 24-22 on the Arcul de Triumf Stadium
in Bucharest. Steaua had qualified after defeating CSM Stiinta Baia Mare 32-28
in the semifinals, while CSM Bucharest had thrashed Timisoara Saracens 31-8.
CSM Stiinta Baia Mare won the third place match against Timisoara Saracens
30-29 in Cluj. CSM Bucharest won the trophy for the first time, the closest it
came to winning it before was a third place. For Steaua, this was the third
final they lose.
Finally, the Romanian Rugby Federation has announced that works to
modernise the Arcul de Triumf Stadium in Bucharest, where the national side are
playing, will begin on the 9th of September. For the duration of the
works, the national side will be playing their home matches in Iasi, Timisoara
and Cluj.
