Romania needed a win in the match against Estonia on Tuesday night, in order to secure second place in Group D, allowing the team to play in the 2014 World Cup playoffs.
And the team grabbed a victory, thanks to Marika, who scored twice on minutes 30 and 81, respectively.
The Romanian national football team needed 3 points (a victory) against Estonia, in order to advance to the next stage, but that also depended on the other group fixture pitting Turkey on home turf against the Netherlands. Turkey lost to the Dutch team, 2-nil.
Estonia was no easy opponent for Romania, the team being capable of producing surprises, such as the 2-all draw against the Netherlands at home. In the 2012 European Championship qualifiers, Estonia had a remarkable run, qualifying to the playoffs.
