Mainz, the team of Romanian international Alexandru Maxim, has qualified for the quarterfinals of Germany’s Football Cup after a 3-1 win against VfB Stuttgart. Maxim was part of the lineup and had a considerable hand in the second goal scored by his side.

Razvan Burleanu, chair of the Romanian Football Federation, on Wednesday said he wanted the national side to start playing friendlies against European challengers as early as March so that they may improve their training for the Nations League due to kick off in September.

According to the news published by various sports papers, Romania’s national eleven might play the selections of Israel and Ireland. Asked to nominate the coach of the year Burleanu said, quote:

“It’s difficult for me as a federation chairman, to nominate the coach of the year. There are a few good coaches though and first I would like to mention Gheorghe Hagi who managed an incredible result, then it’s Daniel Isaila whose results with the under twenty-one team are excellent. Sumudica has also done well in Turkey and also have Ladislau Boloni and Constantin Enache,” Burleanu has been quoted by Agerpress as saying.

We recall that Hagi owns and trains Romania’s champions Viitorul Constanta. Marius Sumudica is coaching Turkish side Kayserispor while Boloni is a technician with Belgian side Royal Antwerp. Constantin Enache is coaching the Romanian first-leaguer FC Botosani.

The Romanian football seems to have passed the financial crisis it was facing. All the clubs in the first Romanian football league have met the financial fair-play criteria, a monitoring agency with the Romanian Football Federation has announced. According to the Federation’s webpage, no overdue debts were registered on November 30th deadline. The financial monitoring programme, which was implemented in 2015, revealed that three football clubs had violated the financial monitoring requests in the 2015-2016 season and another two in the following year.
