Romanian League One football team Concordia Chiajna has provided one of the biggest surprises of the ongoing League One championship, grabbing a 3-2 away win against Dinamo Bucharest. The fixture counted towards the 11th round of the domestic championship, and was initially set for the day of September 20th, but it was delayed because of severe weather conditions. We should also note that Concordia Chiajna defeated the team whose current manager, Vasile Miriuta, is their former coach. We recall that Miriuta has been recently appointed at the helm of Dinamo, since their former manager, Cosmin Contra, has taken over the national team, as of late.
In this past Wednesday’s game, Dinamo’s Rivaldinho drew first blood on 12 minutes. Dinamo apparently were in control of the match, yet Concordia drew level on 30 minutes when Paul Batin took advantage of an error made by Dinamo’s Spaniard defender José Romera. Early into the second half of the game, Dinamo’s Paul Anton put his team ahead once again in minute 47, through a header, being served by Sergiu Hanca’s corner ball. Concordia came up with the equalizer on 64 minutes, thanks to a superb shot provided by their former Dinamo footballer Claudiu Bumba. Paul Batin’s second goal sealed the fate of the game on 83 minutes, after a corner short. In the as-it-stands table, Dinamo are 7th placed, while Concordia are 11th placed.
This past Wednesday saw fixtures being played, counting towards the Champions League. The Romanian Ovidiu Hategan was the central referee in the game pitching Sporting Lisbon against Barcelona FC, as part of Group D, which the Catalans won, 1-nil. Paris Saint Germain grabbed a 3-nil win against Bayern Munich, while FC Basel thrashed Portuguese opponents Benfica Lisbon, 5-nil.
