Romanias champions in the 2016-2017 football season, Viitorul Constanta, played CSKA Moscow in a friendly game. The match was hosted by Wildon, Austria, and was part of a training campaign Viitorul is undergoing abroad. Gheorghe Hagis trainees lost 2-4 to the defending Russian vice-champions. Scoring for Viitorul were Aurelian Chitu on minute 13 and Ionut Vina on minute 56.

Dinamo Bucharest is another team training abroad, in Slovenia. The team from Bucharest lost the last game of their campaign. Cosmin Contras trainees lost nil-1 to Anzhi Makhachkala of Russia. Dinamo won three and lost four of the total seven matches played so far. All the matches won by Dinamo were against teams from Slovenia, one from the first league, the other two from the second-tier division.
CSU Craiova is training in Austria. Craiova lost the last friendly game of their campaign to Ukrainian vice-champions Dinamo Kiev, nil-2. Scoring for Dinamo were Dieumerci Mbokani and Andryi Yarmolenko.
Meanwhile, the Romanian First League 2017-2018 football season is set to kick off this weekend. The timetable for the 26 rounds of regular season will be decided in a draw on Friday, July 7.
Sunday, July 9, the Romanian Supercup will be pitting Viitorul Constanta, the winner of the Romanian Championship, against Romanian Cup winners, FC Voluntari. The match will be hosted by Botosani, northern Romania.
