The match to establish the winner of
the Romanian Super Cup, due on the 9th of July, will be hosted for
the first time by the north-eastern city of Botosani, the Romanian Football Federation
has announced. The two contenders are the holders of the championship title,
Viitorul Constanta, and the winner of the Romanian Cup, FC Voluntari. The
president of the Romanian Football Federation, Razvan Burleanu, also said that
the First League format could change again in the 2019-2020 season. The current
two-group system may be eliminated, with 16 teams participating in the
competition. A final decision will, however, be taken in September.
In the meantime, Romanian football
teams continue their summer training. On Wednesday in Slovenia, FC Voluntari
drew 1-all against the Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava and will next play the
Croatian side Slaven Belupo on Saturday. Also in Slovenia, Dinamo Bucharest
lost to the local champions NK Maribor 2-1. This was Dinamo’s third consecutive
loss in their friendly matches in Slovenia, having also been defeated by Osijek
1-4 and by Lokomotiva Zagreb nil-1. CSU Craiova, who are training in Austria,
lost to the Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad nil-1, with the Romanian
international player Cosmin Moti scoring the match’s only goal. In their first
friendly match, Craiova lost to another Bulgarian side, CSKA Sofia 2-4 after
leading 2-nil.
The Romanian First League matches
resume in two weeks’ time. The matches of the 26 legs of the regular season
will be established after a drawing of lots on the 7th of July.
