Romanian football continues its schedule at domestic level, following Romanian national squads disappointing performance in the match against Montenegro.

League Cup fixtures are well underway this week, and we already know two of the semifinalists.The first team to have made headway into the semifinals is Poli Timisoara, since this pasty Wednesday on home turf they outclassed Concordia Chiajna, 2-1. On 13 minutes Concordia’s goalie Cristian Balgradean deflected the ball Andrei Artean shot from penalty spot, but Poli’s midfielder managed to control the ball and eventually scored.
In minute 64, Poli were one man shy on the pitch as Cristian Barbut got yellow booked for the second time. Ten minutes later, Concordia, last season’s finalist leveled the score thanks to defender Cristian Albu’ s goal. Poli’s Marius Croitoru sealed the fate of the game scoring on 78 minutes.
ASA Targu Mures is the second finalist of the League Cup, since they overpowered CFR Cluj away from home, 5-4, after the penalty shootout. The score was 1-all, after regular and extra time.
CFR got the upper hand during the first half and the ball shot by their footballers hit the crossbar twice. However, in the second half ASA’s Nigerian footballer Benjamin Kuku drew first blood on 64 minutes. CFR’s Cristian Bud leveled the score on 83 minutes.
CFR twice missed the opportunity to score during the penalty shootout, while ASA Targu Mures missed such an opportunity only once. ASA Targu Mures and Poli Timisoara will face one another in the semifinals, with double-legged ties scheduled on December 21st or 22nd, and March the first and the second 2017, respectively.
Also counting towards the League Cup’s quarterfinals, FC Botosani face Steaua, while on Friday, Astra Giurgiu take on Dinamo Bucharest.
