Romanian football striker George Puscas managed to score twice on Sunday for his new team, Reading, which defeated Cardiff City at home 3-0, in the third round of the second division of the English Football League Championship. The Romanian scored the first game of the match in the 25th minute, after a roughly 50 meter sprint, and scored the second time 15 minutes later. Puscas had scored on Tuesday his first goal for Reading against the Wycombe Wanderers in the English Cup, a game they won 4-2 in the penalty shootout that ensued. As a result, RRI designated George Puscas Athlete of the Week.
Puscas was born on April 8, 1996, in Marghita, Bihor County, in northwestern Romania. He started his career in Oradea, the largest city in Oradea County, with local team Liberty. He was spotted there by scouts from Internazionale Milano, and the team hired him for 600,000 Euro. After a stint with the junior division of the club, Inter brought him into the fold, but mostly underused him. He then was borrowed by Italian team Bari, and with them he was one small step away from going to the premiere league. The Milano team then sent him to Benevento, and then Puscas finally managed to play in the foremost group of teams. Going back to the secondary league, he was once again lent away, this time to Novara. Internazionale decided to transfer him back to Palermo, this time for 3 million Euro. After the Sicilian team was relegated to the fourth league, Inter took him back and transferred him to English team Reading for eight million Euro with a two million Euro bonus. This was the most expensive transfer for Reading.
