Romanian footballer Cosmin Moti was included in UEFA’s Team of the Week after last Wednesday’s third round of the Europa League group phase. Moti was chosen mostly because he scored a goal in the 2-nil win his club, Ludogoretz Razgrad of Bulgaria grabbed away from home against Sporting Braga of Portugal. UEFA compiled the dream team based on the players’ individual stats. “The 32-year-old was the highest central defender thanks to his goal and clean sheet in his teams 2-0 win at Braga. He produced ten clearances among his 16 defences interventions to lead the way at the back”, UEFA writes on its webpage.
Following his remarkable performance, we have designated Cosmin Moti Athlete of the Week on RRI.
Cosmin Moti was born on December 3, 1984 in Resita. He made his debut in 2002 with Universitatea Craiova. In 2005 he was signed by Dinamo, the club that brought him to the fore of domestic football. During his 7 years spent at Dinamo he became one of the most fan-favoured players and a symbol of the team. He won the domestic championship in 2007 and the Romanian Cup in 2012. He then transferred to Ludogoretz Razgrad in Bulgaria. In 2014 he contributed to knocking out Steaua Bucharest from the Champions League playoffs. He was named man of the match, after filling in for goal-keeper Stoianov, who was shown a red booking. In the penalty shoot-out Moti scored a goal and saved two, thus sealing Steaua’s fate.
