Figure skater Julia Sauter has been designated Athlete of the Week by Radio Romania International

Romania has got its first plane ticket to the Winter Olympic Games due next year in Milan and Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy. Julia Sauter, a figure skater of German origin presently competing for Romania has ranked among the first 24 athletes in the women’s event of the World Figure Skating Championship in Boston. She thus obtained a place for Romania’s Olympic team. Julia Sauter has applied for Romanian citizenship and if she gets it by the end of the year, she will be representing Romania in the prestigious winter competition. For this performance, Radio Romania International has designated Julia Sauter Athlete of the Week.
After the short programme in Boston, Julia ranked 16th being awarded 59.88 points as the first ranking athlete Alysa Liu, of the USA got 74.58 points. In the free programme she ranked 20th and the total number of points 162.61 placed her on the 19th position. The world title winner Liu, got 222.97 points in the event.
Julia Sauter was born in Weingarten, Germany, a university city in Baden – Württemberg, on June 18th 1997. She is currently competing for Corona Brașov, a sports club in central Romania. As a junior athlete she competed for Germany. At its first participation in a senior competition in Stockholm, in 2015 she came 35th. In 2016, in Bratislava, she came 27th, and in 2017, in Ostrava, 25th. In 2019, in Minsk, she ended the competition in the 14th position.
The significant headway she made has prompted her to the first positions in the world rankings. At the European championships this year held in Tallin, Estonia, she came 7th clinching the best position in the history of the Romanian figure skating. Her best performance is the 18th position in Montpellier in 2022, while last year in Montreal she ended on the 27th position.
