Employees in the health-care system in Romania on Friday protested for the third day in a row, denouncing the lack of proper financing of the system and calling for a minimum of 6% of the GDP. Representatives of the professionals coalition have accepted to talk to Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu on Sunday, but have announced that piqueting will continue until September 27th. Unless their claims are solved, employees in the health-care sector will stage a big rally in the capital in October, and in November will start an all-out strike.
The Moldovan defence minister Vitalie Marinuta had talks on Friday in Bucharest with his Romanian counterpart Mircea Dusa. The two officials agreed to main a high level of bilateral cooperation between their respective ministries. The Moldovan minister thanked the Romanian Army for its constant support in the reorganisation and modernisation of the Moldovan Army. He also had talks with Romania’s foreign minister Titus Corlatean, who reiterated Romania’s full support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and the latter’s progress ahead of the upcoming meeting of the Eastern Partnership hosted by Vilnius in November.
The Romanian students who participated in the 7th edition of the International Earth Science Olympiad held in India between the 11th and the 19th of September won a gold and three silver medals. In the official nations’ standings, Romania ranked third together with Japan, after Taiwan and South Korea. 101 students from 28 different countries took part in this year’s International Earth Science Olympiad.
