Romania lost 3-1 to Poland in an away match counting towards Group E in the 2018 World Cup preliminaries and now holds only slim mathematical chances of qualifying.
In other group fixtures, Denmark defeated Kazakhstan 3-1, while Montenegro trounced Armenia 4-1.
Poland tops the group tables with 16 points, followed by Montenegro and Denmark, each with 10. Romania is in fourth place with 6 points. Romania will next play Armenia on September 1 on home turf.
