The President of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea today is on an official visit to Paris. Included on the Romanian high-ranking official’s agenda are meetings with his counterpart Claude Bartolone, the President of the French National Assembly, with Danielle Auroi, the president of the European affairs Commission, with Bruno Le Roux, president of the Socialist Group, as well with representatives of Romanian diaspora in France. Valeriu Zgonea’s visit to France has occurred amid fears that Romania failed to meet the criteria for its Schengen accession, according to some politicians in Paris, but also against the backdrop of the remarks made regarding the Rroma population’s integration.
Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache has made headway into the beam, floor and all-round finals in the World Championship held in the Belgian city of Antwerp, while Sandra Izbasa qualified for the floor finals. For the men’s finals at the ongoing World Gymnastics Championships, Marius Berbecar is Romania’s representative. The all-round final is scheduled today, this coming Friday will see gymnasts competing in the women’s finals, while the apparatuses pieces finals are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Romanians working abroad this year will send home 3 point six billion dollars, according to a World Bank Report. In 2012 Romanians working abroad sent home one point naught billion dollars from Italy and Spain, respectively, according to the World Bank statistics. The United States, Hungary, Israel, Germany, Canada, Austria, France and Great Britain are also among the countries from where Romanians in 2012 sent large sums of money home. Such sums reached their record high in 2008, the breakout year of the world financial crisis, when the total amount of money stood at almost nine point four billion dollars.
