Salaries. The average annual adjusted salary of a Romanian full-time employee is the fourth lowest in the European Union. Eurostat data show an annual increase of approximately 2,500 euros for 2023, but the total value remains less than half of the EU average. On the other hand, the data published by the National Institute of Statistics show that most of the unemployed in Romania are adults between the ages of 25 and 74. The NIS draws attention to the level of unemployment among young people, those aged between 15 and 24, which exceeds 23%. In September, the national unemployment rate stood at 5.5%, similar to that of August, which had, however, increased slightly compared to the previous month.
Summit. Migration remains an important challenge at European level, which requires a common and comprehensive response, said Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the fifth Meetiing of the European Political Community in Budapest. The leaders’ discussions during the plenary session stressed the significant impact of the Russian aggression against Ukraine on the entire continent, but also at global level. They emphasized the need for coordinated action at European level to support Kyiv. At the meeting on supporting the Republic of Moldova, the European leaders also pledged to keep providing the necessary support so that the state can continue the reforms and the fight against external interference.
Sweden. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens transiting or travelling to the Kingdom of Sweden that the Swedish authorities have taken the decision to reintroduce control at the internal state border between November 12 and May 11, 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends Romanian citizens to make sure that they have a valid identity document, i.e. passport or national identity card. Romanian citizens facing a difficult situation can contact the diplomatic mission of Romania in the Kingdom of Sweden.
Feast. Today, almost 1.5 million Romanians are celebrating their name day, on the Christian feast of Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel, according to the data provided by the General Directorate for Persons’ Record within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Saints Michel and Gabriel Fair opens its doors also today, in the yard of the Ministry of Agriculture in Bucharest, where consumers can find a varied range of traditional Romanian dishes, as well as authentic and diverse local products. The fair is open until November 9.
Football. The Romanian football champion FCSB defeated the Danish team FC Midtjylland 2-0, on Thursday evening, at home, in a match counting for the 4th stage of Europa League. In the first three matches, FCSB scored two victories, 4-1, at home, against the Latvians from Rigas FS, and 1-0, away, against the Greeks from PAOK Thessaloniki, coached by the Romanian Răzvan Lucescu. They wee also defeated, in Scotland, 0-4 by the Glasgow Rangers. In this Europa League season, FCSB has played against Olympiakos Piraeus (November 28, at home), Hoffenheim (December 12, away), Qarabag (January 23, away) and Manchester United (January 30, home). The first eight ranked will qualify for the round of 16, while the rest will go to the play-offs to secure a qualification.
Tennis. In a Romanian duel in the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 tennis tournament in Cali (Colombia), Irina Begu defeated Anca Todoni 7-6, 6-4. Begu (34 years old, 102 WTA), the second seed, won after two hours and 16 minutes of play, although she committed nine double faults. Todoni (20 years old, 117 WTA), seed number eight, who won the WTA 125 title in Santa Cruz (Bolivia) on Sunday, won a check for 3,475 dollars and 27 WTA points. Begu, who won 5,300 dollars and 49 WTA points, will meet the Australian Tina Smith (22 years old, 322 WTA) in the penultimate round. (MI)
