PM Ciolos attends inauguration of new wing of Bucharest's Village Museum

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos is today taking part in the inauguration of a new wing of the Village Museum in Bucharest, which turns 80 this year. One of Bucharest’s landmarks, the Village Museum was inaugurated on May 10, 1936, while on May 17 that same year it was opened to the public. It was sociologist Dimitrie Gusti who had the idea, in the interwar period, to bring to Bucharest tens of traditional households from all over Romania. The museum currently hosts 370 monuments and 60 thousand heritage objects.
In Romania, Hexi Pharma is being prosecuted for actions running counter to disease prevention and counterfeiting, in the diluted disinfectants scandal. The company has allegedly provided hospitals with improper substances for years. The Court has recently imposed several restrictions on Hexi Pharma and has rejected the company’s request to be declared bankrupt.
A man suspected of migrant smuggling was detained and 46 people were saved from drowning in the Aegean Sea by Romanian border policemen who were on a Frontex mission in Greece, according to a release by the Romanian Border Police. The migrants – 7 children, 12 women and 27 men – were granted assistance and then transported to Chios Port where they were taken over by the Greek authorities.
The United States and Russia co-chair the meeting, in Vienna, of the International Syria Support Group, which includes Arab League and European Union countries, as well as Turkey, Iran and China. BBC reminds that the Syrian opposition suspended in April its participation in the peace talks in Geneva due to the escalation of violence in Syria. On Monday, also in Vienna, the EU and US foreign ministers as well as the countries neighbouring Libya decided to make an exception from the embargo on weapons for Libya and help the new and fragile national union government in Tripoli. The decision comes against the background of Islamic State’s expansion to this country.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is paying a two-day official visit to Lithuania, starting today. Ionahhis will meet with his counterpart, Dalia Grybauskaite, with PM Algirdas Butkevicius and with the Parliament Speaker Loreta Graužinienė. Talks will focus on strengthening political dialogue and boosting economic cooperatuon as well as on European and regional topical issues.
The Chamber of Deputies plenary sitting is today voting on a simple motion on agriculture entitled “The biggest disaster in Romanian agriculture after 1989”, initiated by the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats. The document’s signatories have accused Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu of blocking the accessing of European funds and the investment in irrigation systems. They also argue that direct payments to farmers have not been made and that the sector’s management is flawed. On Monday, when the motion was discussed in the plenary sitting, Minister Irimescu denied the accusations and said that his work is appreciated by the farmers’ associations.
Football sides Dinamo Bucharest and CFR Cluj are today playing on Bucharest’s National Arena the Romania’s Cup final. The match has a special significance for Dinamo, given that 10 days ago one of his players, Patrick Ekeng, died because of heat problems. To honour his memory, the organisers of today’s game have prepared two special moments.
