Romanian PM Viorica Dancila received Montenegro's PM; Romania celebrates Wolrd Environment Day

BUCHAREST – Romanian PM Viorica Dancila received her Montenegrin counterpart, Srdjan Darmanovic, on an official visit to Bucharest. According to a government press release, the visit comes a year after Montenegro joined NATO, a move supported by Bucharest. As part of the discussions, the Romanian PM confirmed the open door policy with a view to the NATO summit this year. Dancila reiterated Bucharests support in Montenegros bid to join the EU. She underlined the fact that the expansion policy will be on the Romanian agenda when holding the presidency of the EU council, and said that during that term, Romania will be an active and constructive partner in support of the Western Balkan states.
XXX — World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5, when the Stockholm Conference is being held. The Beat Plastic Pollution theme has been picked by the United Nations Environmental Program to celebrated this event, urging everyone to change their interaction with plastic materials. A recent report shows that less than 10% of plastics ever produced has been recycled, and that countries across the world should ban disposable bags and containers.
XXX — Over 100 military personnel from the Romanian air forces, with a HAWK surface to air missile system, IAR-99 Soim and MiG-21 LanceR aircraft are taking part until 15 June in the Tobruq Legacy 18 multinational air defense exercise in Hungary and Slovakia. The purpose of the exercise is training in planning, organizing, and executing air defense in a complex multinational environment, as well as testing interoperability in line with specific procedures and standards. The novelty for the Romanian air forces is moving and operating a surface to air missile system outside the country.
PARIS — The Romanian tennis double Mihaela Buzarnescu- Irina Maria Bara today plays against the Taiwan- China couple Hao-Ching Chan and Zhaoxuan Yang in the quarter finals in Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the year. Romanian favorite Simona Halep, number one in the world, plays in the quarter finals against German player Angelique Kerber, 12 seeded. The two face off for the tenth time, with Halep having one five out of the ten games.
IRAN — Iran has notified the IAEA on its plan to increase its capacity to enrich uranium by increasing its number of centrifuges, a message delivered by Irans vice-president Ali Akbar Salehi. He said that the move was not in violation of the nuclear deal signed in 2015, which the United States pulled out of in May. European partners in the deal continue to support it. US President Donald Trump pulled out of the accord, saying that it does not cover Irans missile program.
