Sweltering heat across Romania is still being reported for today in the south and southeast, where temperature readings will stand at 38-39 degrees Celsius. Starting this afternoon as well as tonight, atmospheric instability has been reported mainly for the center and the northeast, as well as for the hill and mountain regions, while for this coming Friday, instability will be spreading over Romania. Heavy downpours, thunderstorms and gale force winds are reported for most of the regions. The noon reading in Bucharest stood at 33 degrees Celsius. In another development, the drought has hit tens of thousands of hectares of farmland in the south and the east. The drought has also caused a dramatic decrease of river Danube’s level and water flow.



Prime Minister designate in Republic of Moldova, Liberal-Democrat Valeriu Strelet is today asking for the Parliament’s vote of confidence. The team of the new Prime Minister is backed by the Alliance for European Integration, formed last week by the three pro-Western political groups represented in Parliament, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic and the Liberal Party. Radio Romania’s correspondents have quoted political pundits as saying the new Cabinet would be sworn in with no surprise, although the new governing coalition has a frail majority in Parliament, accounting for only 52 seats out of a total number of 101. Following the resignation of a minority cabinet headed by Chiril Gaburici, and made of PLDM — PD, for a month and a half now, Republic of Moldova has been ruled by an interim government, and all this time the country’s economic and social situation has been deteriorating.



Over 250,000 people are expected to attend the UNTOLD festival, to begin today in the central Romanian town of Cluj-Napoca. The festival will be drawing to a close on Sunday. UNTOLD is the main project of the 2015 Cluj Napoca Youth European Cultural Capital program. For the first time ever, four of the most popular electro-dance music artists will be performing on the same stage: AVICII, ARMIN van BUUREN, DAVID GUETTA and DIMITRI VEGAS&LIKE MIKE. More than 170 international as well as domestic artists will step onto the eight stages of the festival. Expected in Cluj are tourists from Mexico, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Canada. Throughout 2015, Cluj is the holder of the European Youth Capital title. Since 2009, the title has been granted on a yearly basis to a European city which has the chance to present through a complex program all aspects deemed relevant from a cultural, social or economic point of view. However, the task of such projects is to promote youth at all levels.



No less than eleven pharmaceutical companies, among which some of the leading drug companies on the world market are being investigated in Romania by the National Anticorruption Directorate’s persecutors, AGERPRES has quoted judicial sources as saying. In the aforementioned file, search operation have been conducted in Bucharest and several counties, for crimes perpetrates over 2012-2015. Heads of medical clinics and oncology department are being probed into, as well as oncologist medical doctors, coordinators and people in charge of the oncology sub-program as part of the National healthcare program. Suspicion looms over several medical doctors in some of the drug purchase commissions in hospitals having claimed undue gains from several drug companies in exchange for the prescription of more expensive drugs the companies were producing of distributing. According to judicial sources, Such practices are widespread in Romania’s medical world.



Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised justice to the relatives of the victims of the MH17 plane that crashed in July 2014, despite Russia’s veto opposing the setting up of a special tribunal during the voting session of a resolution in United Natuions’ Security Council, according to the AFP. Russia’s action has thus blocked a resolution proposal backed by Malaysia, Australia, the Netherlands and Ukraine. Kiev has accused Moscow of having provided pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine the rocket that brought down the Malaysia Airlines flight. Two Romanian football teams tonight will be playing the first leg of Europa League’s third preliminary round. Astra Gurgiu in the south will be playing their away fixture against England’s West Ham United, while on home turf ASA Tirgu Mures in the center will be proving their mettle against French squad Saint Etienne. Last night, Romania’s champion team Steaua Bucharest held Serbian opponents Partisan Belgrade to a one-all draw, in the first round of the Champions league’s third preliminary round. The return games are scheduled next week.
