Inequalities were calculated as a ratio between the income of the top 20% of the population (with the highest income) of a country and the income of the bottom 20%, based on the equivalent available income. In 2017, in the EU, this ratio was 5.2. Of the member states, the Czech Republic and Slovenia reported in 2017 the lowest income inequality ratio 3.4, Finland reported 3.5, Slovakia 3.5 and Belgium 3.8. The countries with the highest income inequality ratio were Greece 6.1, Latvia 6.3, Romania 6.5, Spain 6.6, Lithuania 7.3 and Bulgaria 8.2.
