UKRAINE – The Romanian-Ukrainian
Chamber of Commerce on Thursday is hosting the conference titled Rebuilding
Ukraine. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed with
the Ukrainian Embassy in Bucharest. The document stipulates the Chamber of
Commerce will help create a database of companies that are capable and eligible
to take part in reconstruction projects in Ukraine. Attending the event will be
Igor Prokopchuk, Ukraine’s Ambassador in Romania, and Nasty Vlădoiu, the president
of the Romanian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce.




EXHIBITION – Romanian
traditional products will be promoted in the Green Week 2023 international
exhibition that will be hosted by Berlin over January 20-29. 60 out of the
total of 700 registered traditional products, including traditional cheese
preserved in tree bark or smoked trout in fir tree branches. Additionally,
varietals of white, rosé and red wines will be available to sample, in addition
to assortments of honey and cold-pressed oils, as well as jams, preserves,
juices and syrups. The exhibition represents both a business platform as a well
as a festival of gastronomic and folk traditions with a wide reach in Europe
and around the world.




FORUM – Romania’s Foreign
Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, is as of today attending the two-day World Economic
Forum hosted by Davos, Switzerland. The Romanian chief of diplomacy will
present Romania’s position and role regarding security and geopolitical
developments. Minister Aurescu will hold bilateral talks with government and
other high-ranking officials attending the event. Tomorrow, Bogdan Aurescu will
give a keynote address as part of the debate titled A New Helsinki for the World. In his speech, Bogdan Aurescu will
address the need to consolidate global dialogue in terms of security.




DALLES – Starting today, public
conferences are again being hosted by the ‘Dalles’ exhibition center in
Bucharest, after a 75-year break. Built over 1930-1932 by the Romanian Academy
and abusively seized in 1948 by the communist regime, the Dalles exhibition
center will host a series of conferences and debates organized by the Romanian
Academy to support, promote and develop cultural and educational activities.




TENNIS – Romanian tennis player
Irina Begu (30 WTA) lost on Thursday to Laura Siegemund of Germany, 7-5, 5-7,
3-6 in the second round at the Australian Open. Also on Thursday, in the first
round of the women’s doubles, Ana Bogdan of Romania and Tatjana Maria of
Germany were ousted by the pair made up of Olivia Gadecki and Priscilla Hon of
Australia, 6-4, 6-2. The pair made up of Monica Niculescu and Viktorija Golubic
of Swizerland advanced to the second round after knocking out Jaqueline
Cristian of Romania and Tamara Korpatsch of Germany, 6-4, 6-4. Niculescu and
Golubic will next take on Anna Bondar of Hungary and Greet Minnen of Belgium.




WEATHER – Wednesday marked the
hottest day in January in the history of meteorological measurements in
Romania, with a record-high temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius recorded in
Turnu Măgurele (south). The weather remains unusually warm for this time of
the year, with highs expected to range between 10 and 22 degrees Celsius. (VP)
