GOVERNMENT – The coalition
Government led by Liberal Florin Cîţu was sworn in on Wednesday in an official
ceremony held at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace in Bucharest. Earlier on
Wednesday Parliament had voted the new Cabinet led by
Liberal Florin Cîţu with 260 votes in favor and 186 against. Previously
the Parliament’s specialized committees interviewed and approved of all the
candidates vying the 18 ministries. The coalition Government is made up of the
National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union – PLUS Alliance and the
Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania. Its top priority is the
modernization of the country and implementing reforms together with the head of
state. Florin Cîţu said the governing program also includes supporting
investments and structural reforms that would consolidate sustainable economic
growth. The Liberal Prime Minister underlined his Cabinet will work with
clearly stipulated deadlines. We recall the Social-Democratic Party won the
December 6 parliamentary election, but couldn’t make up a majority in
Parliament. The Alliance for the Union of Romanians, which grabbed the
fourth-largest number of votes, also voted against the coalition government.
