Tiganesti transmitter – The short wave transmitter located in Tiganesti, near Bucharest, which broadcasts RRI’s programs, has been provisionally mended by RADIOCOM, the broadcasting service provider. Therefore, you can tune in again to RRI’s broadcasts on the short wave frequencies announced!
Izvoru Muresului — The 17th edition of the Summer University in Izvoru Mureşului continues until August 17 in the county of Harghita, in the center. The representatives of the Romanians from Covasna, Harghita and Mures counties on Wednesday called on the government to set up a body within the government that should deal with the observance of the rights of and the protection of the cultural and individual identity of the Romanian communities in the 3 aforementioned counties and with the fight against discrimination against the Romanians in the area on ethnic criteria. On Tuesday the Romanian communities’ representatives from Serbia, Ukraine and Bulgaria called for the support of the Romanian state in preserving their national identity.
Vote — The Permanent Electoral Authority announced that over 16,400 Romanian voters from abroad have so far registered online on the portal www.votstrainate.ro for the autumn presidential election. The Authority explained that people can only register personally on that platform. According to the Ministry for the Romanians abroad more than 5 million and a half Romanians have left the country. The number of Romanians living outside Romania’s borders, including those in the historical communities, stands at almost 10 million. (news update by L. Simion)
