Good Immunity as a Prevention Measure
Immunity plays a crucial role in maintaining health.

Defined as the body’s ability to defend itself against viruses, bacteria and parasites, immunity plays a crucial role in maintaining health. There are two lines of defense, the textbooks explain: innate immunity, which includes physical barriers such as skin and mucous membranes, and adaptive immunity, made up of specialized cells and proteins that target the specific cause of infections. Essential for good immunity is a healthy lifestyle that includes quality nutrition, exercise, and adequate hydration, experts say. They state that people with strong immunity get sick less often and heal faster, having the ability to cope with stress more easily. At the opposite end, a deficient immunity creates many problems for the body, which must defend itself, including in situations of illness. Maria Marcvart, a doctor specializing in internal medicine and skills in ozone therapy, spoke about all this on Radio Romania, and insisted on the importance of a good immunity of the body as a method of prevention. In recent years, it has been very clearly demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency leads to decreased immunity, says Dr. Maria Marcvart:
“What can we do? Let’s take the holy pair, vitamin D and vitamin C. I care a lot about these because I take them myself, and give them to patients. Of course, it is ideal to have a dose of vitamin D. The general trend, including in Italy, if you can imagine, in rural areas, people are deficient in vitamin D. And it has been shown in recent years, very clearly, that vitamin D deficiency leads to decreased immunity. A deficient immunity means that we are not protected against colds or serious infectious diseases, but also against cancer. And cancer is a disease in which the body has to defend itself. We produce cancer cells from the first days of life, every second, every minute, an atypical cell is born. If our lymphocytes, which are the sharpshooters, are doing well, they are numerous enough and armed enough, then everything is fine, if not, it is not.”
How do we take care of these “elite shooters”, the lymphocytes? The diet would be the easiest to adjust, says doctor Maria Marcvart:
“A healthy diet means good quality proteins, more carbohydrates from fruits, carbohydrates, that is, flour products as complex as possible. And, of course, all the ones we get from fruits and vegetables. Let’s not forget that we must eat at least one salad a day, or at least one fruit snack a day. I would put dairy products a little further back. We must remember that we are the only species that eat cheese and dairy as adults. So, from time to time, do not exaggerate. We should not eat cheese at every meal, eat it once or twice a week. We have to understand that they unfortunately maintain a state of chronic inflammation, which is seen in a coated tongue, is seen in our mucous membranes that react very easily to viruses. Did you know that obesity is also considered a general inflammatory condition? Depression is linked to a general inflammatory condition. There is a lot more, inflammation today means a lot more than ‘I hit my hand, it’s swollen, it’s red, and it hurts.'”
Hydration also plays an important role, and, as a form of treatment, Dr. Maria Marcvart recommends ozone therapy. Through this, which can have various forms of delivery, ozone is introduced into the body, thus increasing the level of oxygen in the tissues. Ozone acts either directly, especially in the case of viruses, bacteria and parasites, or through very good oxygenation of diseased tissues, or indirectly, stimulating the body to trigger its own defense and repair mechanisms in the case of various ailments, explained Maria Marcvart:
“There are many, many conditions in which ozone therapy is useful, because it actually has some ways of acting on some clear symptoms. For example, it is a good anti-inflammatory agent. We have inflammation from knee pain, shoulder pain, back pain, to irritable bowel syndrome, it’s also a kind of inflammation. Also, ozone is a good detoxifier, a good antioxidant. For example, diabetes is a disease with a lot of oxidative stress, where these pro-oxidant products are out of balance with our natural antioxidants. Here, ozone forces the body to fight with its own weapons. It is very good in cases where we do not have enough oxygen to a certain tissue. These micro-circulation diseases don’t really go away with anything else, but ozone therapy intervenes here, it balances immunity. It’s an immunity modulator, an immunity stimulator.”
Ozone therapy can be used with very good results, from simple viruses to diabetes with complications, from arthrosis, spondylosis, to neuralgia and neuropathies, or as a complementary treatment in oncological diseases, says Dr. Maria Marcvart.
