Tennis player Anca Todoni

One of Romania’s youngest and most promising tennis players is quite rapidly claiming her place among the world’s elite tennis players. Having already secured a position among the world’s top 100 players, Anca Todoni has recently won a new WTA 125 tournament. Anca is not even 21, yet in Turkey’s Antalya last week she compelled recognition in the Megasaray Hotels Open, a tournament with 115, 000 USD in prize money.
Reason enough for Radio Romania International to designate Anca Todoni the Athlete of the week
In Megasaray Tennis Open’s round of 32, Anca Todoni defeated Hungarian opponent Panna Udvardy, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 16, Anca defeated Croatia’s Jana Fett, 6-3, 6-2. Anca Todoni’s quarterfinal confrontation against the tournament’s 3rd-seeded tennis player, Arantxa Rus of the Low Countries was a little bit more difficult, yet Anca eventually won, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
In the semi-finals, Anca Todoni played Clara Burel of France. Todoni won the first set, 6-2. In the second set, when the Romanian had a 3-2 advantage, Burel pulled out of the confrontation. In the final, Anca Todoni defeated Spanish challenger Leyre Romero Gomez, 6-3, 6-2. For her success Anca was rewarded with 15,000 USD and was granted 125 WTA points.
In October 2024, Anca Todoni turned 20. She hails from Timisoara, in the west. Anca made her debut as a pro in 2020 in an ITF tournament in Canada, In 2022, in Antalya, Turkey, Anca Todoni won her first ITF title as in the final she defeated her fellow Romanian Patricia Tig.
In June, 2024, Anca won her first WTA 125 tournament, in Bari, Italy, securing a 6-4 6-nil win in the final she played against the Hungarian Panna Udvardy. In Wimbledon, Anca Todoni reached as far as the second round. Anca then secured her second win in a WTA 125 tournament, in November, 2024, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where in the final she defeated Colombia’s Emiliana Arango, 7-6, 6-nil. Anca Todoni is 100th-placed according to the as-it-stands world ranking.
